One more day until the MSMA Spring Conference! Behind the scenes individuals have been working together to bring this event to you. It truly does take a committee. There is so much to do, but when it all comes together, a lot of emotions come to mind; excitement, relief, nervousness, plus everything in between. We need to find speakers, pick the venue, food, decorations and so much more.  Contact your local  chapter officers if you would like to help plan a conference; whether it be fall or spring!

See you all tomorrow in at Jackpot Junction in Morton, MN!

Chapter Elected Positions

4/17/2018 7:06:11 PM

We are three days away from the MN State Society of Medical Assistants Spring Conference! We are always seeking help in national, state or chapter organizations. Who else is going to protect and find ways to better our profession? Today I am going to share with you the different elective offices in the chapters and what they entail.  Each chapter includes members in different regions of the state. There is a much better breakdown of this on our web page, http://www.mnsma.org/chapters.  Each chapter has a President, President-Elect, Secretary and Treasurer. In some chapters the Secretary and Treasures may be a combined position. There are rules to be an officer such as being an active member; must be AAMA Certified and dues paid to the AAMA must be current.  Terms of office may be one or two years upon the chapter. See the following offices in the chapter as below:

  •           President. Conduct and/or lead chapter meetings. Attend MSMA Board Meetings.
  •           President-Elect. Attend all chapter meetings. Assist president in their duties. Assume duties of president in their absence.  Become President at end of President-Elect Term
  •          Immediate Past President. Attend all chapter meetings. Assist President, President-Elect and Executive Board in their duties throughout the year. Serve as Bylaws Committee Chair.
  •          Secretary. Retain minutes of all chapter and executive board meetings. Conduct chapter communications. Attend all chapter meetings.
  •          Treasurer. Responsible for monies, securities, and valuable financial papers of chapter. Keep detailed account of receipts and disbursements of the chapter. Provide current report at each chapter meeting. Pay out expense upon receipts of bills, vouchers and signed expense forms.

Contact your chapter president if you are interested in an elected position.  To hold an elected office in the state society, you have must have held that office at a chapter level. For example, if you want to be president of MN State Society of Medical Assistants, you must have held that position at a chapter level.  Also each chapter, along with the state society has bylaws, which act as a guideline as how to the organizations are run. If you would like a copy of the bylaws, contact your chapter leaders.  Tomorrow we will discuss ways to get involved if you are not quite ready to take on an elected position.  Stay tuned!

Another way to get involved! Committees!

4/16/2018 7:41:01 PM

We are four days away from the MN State Society of Medical Assistants Spring Conference! We are always seeking help in national, state or chapter organizations. Who else is going to protect and find ways to better our profession? Don"t think you have enough time, think again! Myself, I am the PR/Website Committee Chair and doing this at 9pm!  Of course I work full time, enjoy my family time and me time also!!

There are several committees you can join at the state level. I will highlight them below:

  •         Nominating Committee. Remember the previous day about being a delegate at the AAMA National Convention? These are the individuals that are responsible for solicitations, screening and presentation of a slate of nominees for elective positions. If you were interested in being a delegate, you would contact the members of this committee; or any other elective positions in the MN State Society of Medical Assistants. To really see this committee in action, I suggest you attend the annual spring state conference when we have our state meeting.
  •       Website/Public Relations Committee. Maintain the MN State Society of Medical Assistants website.  Responsible for communications to the members.
  •       Budget/Finance Committee. Submits budget to the Executive Committee and annual report members. Audit chapter financial books annually. Sets guideline for the reimbursement of the delegates of AAMA conference suggestions or changes.
  •       Membership/Certification Committee. Responsible for maintenance and recruitment of membership. Keeps roster of memberships.
  •         Bylaws Committee. Maintain and keep current bylaws with AAMA bylaws.
  •   .   Legislation Committee. Monitor state legislative issues that may impact the medical assistant"s right to practice or have impact on our profession.
  •          Scholarship Committee. Review applications for scholarship to be awarded.
  •         Ways & Means Committee. Organize fundraisers for state society.
  •         Historian Committee. Compile history book of society"s activities and maintain records to be displayed at annual meeting.

If you are interested in joining any of these committees or have more questions, go to webpage, http://www.mnsma.org/officers/#chairs, for the appropriate committee chair to contact.

Tomorrow we will discuss involvement at the chapter levels that help prepare you for the state level roles.  Stay tuned!

Attention Chapter Officers, door prizes and finacial audits!

4/16/2018 11:09:54 AM

Chapters please bring door prizes to upcoming MSMA Spring Conference!

Chapter treasurers to bring financial books to MSMA Spring Conference. Give to Susan Mugrdechian, MSMA Treasurer, to review. If chapter treasurer not attending, make sure financial books get to MSMA Spring Conference!

MN State Society of Medical Assistants Seeking Delegates for National Convention

4/15/2018 2:17:45 PM

We are five days away from the MN State Society of Medical Assistants Spring Conference! The calendar may say spring, but not so sure Mother Nature agrees! We are always seeking member involvement tin national, state or chapter organizations. Who else is going to protect and find ways to better our profession? For the next five days, I am going to highlight ways you can be involved in the American Association Medical Assistants, MN State Chapter of Medical Assistants, and the local chapters. Please note state and local chapters are affiliated with the AAMA.

Here is  your big opportunity! Attend the American Association of Medical Assistant National Conference as a delegate! As a delegate, you are elected by the members of the MN State Society of Medical Assistants to represent their positions on a variety of issues discussed in House of Delegates. The Delegates than vote on issues brought before the House of Delegates and elect candidates for the national office. The Board of Trustees (BOT) than implements the policies established by the majority vote of delegates. Also a delegate gives direction to the Board of Trustees that effects your profession, and therefore you! The American Association of Medical Assistants National Conference takes place Sept, 14-17 in Salt Lake City, Utah. If you are interested in being a delegate, contact the nominating committee chairs, Laurie Murphy via email, laurie.murphy@cuyunamed.org or Cherie Miller via email, Cherie.Miller@ ridgewater.edu  for more information!

Tomorrow we will discuss the different committees of the MN State Society of Medical Assistants that volunteer their time for the profession of the Certified Medical Assistant!
