Dear Members of the Minnesota Society of Medical Assistants:
Thank you for your support as your newly elected President of the Minnesota Society of Medical Assistants. My name is Dawn Verdon and I look forward to working with you the next two years. I have been a Certified Medical Assistant since 1996; however, I worked as a Medical Assistant for twenty years before becoming certified.
I am a graduate of Willmar Area Vocational-Technical Institute, now known as Ridgewater College. I grew up in SW Minnesota and have lived in the Brainerd Lakes Area since 1991. My husband and I live in Baxter. I have two grown sons and two grandchildren.
My experience as the Program Director and Instructor at Central Lakes College in Staples the past nine years has afforded me the privilege to work with many great students to assist them in becoming Certified Medical Assistants in the field. I loved my various jobs working in clinics for almost thirty years, but after furthering my education to become an elementary school teacher, I taught 3rd and 4th graders for three and a half years before starting the Medical Assistant Program at CLC in Staples. Now I get to teach what I loved doing. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing students attain their educational goals!
Two of my goals as your new president are to build our membership so that those who are new to the field of Medical Assisting are able to keep the passion ignited! Now is your opportunity to consider stepping into a leadership role with MSMA at the regional or state level and run for an office in the future.
The second goal I have is to increase awareness within the healthcare industry of the value of hiring Certified Medical Assistants. We need to promote ourselves!
As Lisa Sailor, your new President-Elect for MSMA stated, “The AAMA is dedicated to preserving our rights and to build a better foundation for us as certified medical assistants.†We are committed to working on building membership for the great state of Minnesota! Lisa and I are willing to travel throughout Minnesota to attend your chapter meetings and share our passion as to how we can promote the great career of being a CMA (AAMA).
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any of the State Board Members if you have questions or concerns.
Wishing you a great summer,
Dawn L. Verdon, MS, CMA (AAMA)
Thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself as your newly elected President-Elect for the Minnesota Society of Medical Assistants. My name is Lisa Sailor and I have been a Certified Medical Assistant since 1999.
My husband Chad and I have two daughters, Jocelyn (15) and Andraya (11). Both girls are very active in sports. We reside in Zimmerman, Minnesota. My favorite activities include fishing, deer hunting, scrapbooking (invite me to retreats), kickboxing, taking long walks, and spending time with family and friends.
My experience as the Program Director and Laboratory Instructor at Anoka Technical College has helped me to become one of the many great Certified Medical Assistants in the field. I loved my job helping patients in the clinic. I also mentored new Medical Assistant students, who also became great Medical Assistants. I wanted to share my passion by formally educating Medical Assistants, so I became a Medical Assistant instructor at Anoka Technical College in 2010, and was promoted to the Medical Assistant Program Director position in 2011 at the school where I started my passion.
It is my desire to work hard every day to better the Medical Assistant Program and encourage students to be the best medical assistants out there. I am familiar with how great it feels to overcome fears and challenges to succeed! I want to continue to use my creativity to help future medical assistants become excited, give them hope, and help them reach their educational and personal goals.
Each year I set new goals. One of my goals is to help students succeed on their educational path, especially students who are new to higher education and to the healthcare industry.
The AAMA is dedicated to preserving our rights and to build a better foundation for us as medical assistants. Dawn Verdon, President, and I are committed to working on building membership for the great state of Minnesota!
If you have questions, concerns or comments, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Lisa Sailor, MS, CMA (AAMA)
